Phish/August 16-17,1997/Limestone,ME

Not many bands would attract me to northern Maine. We're talking about *almost in Canada* northern Maine. But Phish is one of those bands. So I happily traveled up there with my friends Adam and Joel. My roommate Jess worked for Phish Dry Goods at the time,so she managed to get me a free ticket to this show. Many thanks to Jess and Phish!

The 1st set on day #1 started at 4:20pm. (No joke. They really did.) The weather had been mildly gloomy up until the middle of that first set. At one point (perhaps during "You Enjoy Myself") the Sun came out,and everybody was in a very festive mood.

The remainder of the festival was a total blast. But in typical 1997 fashion,I overdid it with the party favors, and much of the show is blurry to me. This was my first time witnessing blatantly open drug sales at a concert. One guy was walking around advertising (in a rather loud voice) "Cocaine,Doses,Ecstasy!".  This became more commonplace in later years, but at the time it was fairly rare.

This weekend has gone down in Phish history as a pretty BIG DEAL. And I'm happy I was there to see and hear it.
