Phish/April 4,1994/Burlington,VT

A few of my close friends came to this show with me. It was the 1st show of Phish's 1994 tour. They had just released their new album "Hoist",and we were all excited to be there. Phish didn't do too many more shows at the Flynn Theatre after this. They soon became too big to be contained at such a small place.

I didn't care much for the new album "Hoist" at first. It felt like a blatant attempt to become a commercial band. HOW DARE THEY?! Oh well. Seeing those new songs performed live that night changed my mind. As is sometimes the case with Phish, their best performances are not on the studio albums. These songs (soon to become classics) sounded far better to me in a live format. The band did all kinds of fun stuff at this show. The Giant Country Horns brass section played on some of the songs. They pop up with Phish from time to time. And part of "The Jungle Book" soundtrack was played by the band during the 2nd set. Another fun night at the beautiful Flynn Theatre.

And here is a song from that night.
