Grateful Dead/July 13,1994/Highgate,VT

Having been a Dead fan for a couple years at this point,I was ecstatic when I heard they'd be playing a show in Highgate (10 miles from my home). My parents were nice enough to wait in line in St. Albans to buy me a ticket at a record shop.

The day of the show arrived, and my Dad was nice enough to drive me and my friend Dan as close as he could to the concert site. Traffic was a complete nightmare approaching Highgate. After arriving,we happily walked through the circus of crazy people to get into the show.

Back in those days,I placed unrealistic expectations on many concerts. This was one of them. I expected the BEST SHOW EVER in Highgate to show all my friends how great this band was. Well...guess what? It wasn't the best show ever. It was cool to see the Dead so close to home and everything, but this was the beginning of the end for Jerry Garcia. He was in the midst of drug problems again, and it showed. It was not a terrible show, but something was off. (Things got even worse for the Highgate '95 show, but that will be dealt with later.)

Personal highlights of this show were the "Drums and Space" segments and "Standing On the Moon".

Below my ticket stub is an audio recording of this show.
