Johnny Winter-The Band-Leon Russell/July 4,1993/Stratton,VT

Sometime in '91 or '92 I became a massive Johnny Winter fan. I ended up seeing him 3 times before his passing, and this was the first. My parents were nice enough to drive me to Stratton that day for the show. They dropped me off at the concert and went to get food and a hotel for the night.

I don't recall anything about The Band at all. Leon Russell I remember for his long white hair and beard. For his encore,Leon didn't do the bogus "walk offstage and come back" routine. He stood up at his keyboard for maybe 30 seconds and sat back down to do the encore. But I was there to see Johnny Winter.

My seat for the show was a little way back but not bad at all. There was little to no crowd control,so I managed to walk right up to the stage for a good chunk of Johnny's set. It was beautiful to see him up close playing blazing bottleneck guitar. I don't know if he was on a tight schedule, but Johnny kept looking at his watch for some reason. Anyhow....Johnny looked pretty healthy and played like a master. After the show was a pretty fireworks display by Stratton Mountain.

Below the ticket stub is a clip of Johnny approximately one month after this show.
