Eric Clapton/June 11,2001/Boston,MA

Slowhand. This is my one and only time seeing him in concert. I'd been a fan since I was a teenager listening to Cream and Blind Faith.

Again,my brother Sam let me stay at his Allston apartment for this show. While wandering the Fleet Center halls before the show, two cute girls approached me asking if I had anything to sell them. Sorry...wish I could help.

The show began with Clapton sitting down and playing a mini acoustic set. Shortly afterward,he strapped on his electric guitar, and his full band joined him. One surprise in the set was "Bell Bottom Blues" by Derek and the Dominos. The set was a mix of classics and material from his then new album "Reptile".

I feel that Clapton's latter-period guitar playing lacks the *guts* of his earlier efforts. His playing seems to have become more predictable and safe. One guy after the show was asking people if Clapton was "better when he was on drugs". Maybe he was,but I was honored to have seen him in person.
