In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I used to put unrealistic expectations on shows. This is one of them. When I heard that John Mayall was coming to Burlington,I thought "Wow! The blues guitar legend is coming!". I knew he was associated with Eric Clapton and the Bluesbreakers from the 1960s. It seems he is more important BY ASSOCIATION with Clapton than he is for guitar virtuosity.
This was not a bad show, but Mayall is no guitar hero. He played mainly rhythm guitar and sometimes keyboard. His singing was fine but not great. Once again,my expectations for a blindingly good show ruined the night for me.
Above my ticket stub is a clip of Mayall from 1996. He is the one singing and NOT playing lead guitar.
