My oh my. What a great night! It was my 2nd Grateful Dead show and my first time in the old Boston Garden. I took the bus down from Burlington that day. The vending/partying scene was in full swing when I arrived at the Garden. The specifics are hazy, but I was very high when I entered the arena. The security man made me throw away my bagels and water before going into the show. Oh well. I was just happy to make it to my seat WAY up in the balcony. It was a clear view of the stage though.
I recall getting a little panicky during one of Bob Weir's songs. My brain seemed to be going to a dark place. Thankfully Jerry stepped in with his upbeat song "Dire Wolf" and saved the day for me. I also recall a raging "Sugaree" in the 1st set (also courtesy of Mr. Garcia). For me, the main event was during the 2nd set when Jerry started playing "Terrapin Station". (Probably my favorite song at the time.) To say I was blissed-out would be about accurate. The "Space" segment really took me way OUT THERE. The "Sugar Magnolia" was a very upbeat end to the 2nd set. Finally, the "Liberty" encore was a nice, stable way to send us home. With 22 years of hindsight,I can say that I would treat myself differently now at such a show. But at the time I was naive and simply enjoying the extreme power and transportational quality of music.
